Situation Awareness — 2026-11-05
Situation Awareness: Cautious. Yesterday’s midterm relief rally was broad, but this morning the tape is splitting in two. Consumer, cyclical and Dow-heavy names are extending gains on falling oil and lower yields. AI infrastructure is being sold on fears that a Democratic Congress slows data center buildout. SPY at $766.81 sits just under its SMA20 ($767.22) and SMA50 ($767.07) and well above its SMA200 ($730.32). QQQ at $691.95 is well below its SMA20 ($714.64) and SMA50 ($723.17), with RSI at 38.5. IWM at $284.02 holds above all three moving averages. Trade mode: selective, rotation-aware, and avoid chasing semis into the open. Two inputs are calling the shots today. First, this morning’s strong 8:30 data: productivity of 3.6%, unit labor costs down 0.7%, and initial claims of 189K. Second, crude rebounding toward $90 after its collapse. Regime context — 57.55% of stocks trade above their 40-day SMA, and the 4% Bull/Bear gauge shows 909 bulls vs. 489 bears. The available trend data covers only two sessions: the 40-day reading jumped 6.8 points in one day from 50.72%. That is a sharp thrust, but it is not yet a confirmed multi-day uptrend.
